Chimney sweep logs do not sweep chimneys. They loosen some creosote - which then falls where a brush and vacuum still have to collect it.
Gelco Chimney Cap Installation: The Henderson Owner’s Guide
Gelco chimney cap installation in Henderson typically runs $290 – $520 installed, depending on cap size, flue configuration, and whether we’re replacing a rusted mounting bracket or just the cap itself. We stock Gelco-compatible caps on the truck, so most Henderson jobs are done the same visit we diagnose the problem. Most owners find out their cap has failed after a rainstorm, when water stains show up on the ceiling near the fireplace or they hear birds scratching inside the flue first thing in the morning.
Which Gelco Models This Applies To
Most of the Gelco caps we install in Henderson fall into two lines: the standard single-flue caps sized by flue tile dimensions (common on homes in Green Valley Ranch and Anthem), and the larger multi-flue caps that sit on legs over the crown. The compatibility gotcha is measurement, not brand. A Gelco cap is sized to the flue tile’s outside dimension, not the inside opening, so a cap listed as “13×13” often won’t fit a 13×13 flue if the tile walls are thick. We measure on site before anything gets ordered or installed.
We also install aftermarket equivalents that match Gelco’s stainless steel and copper specs. For most Henderson homes, a quality 304 stainless steel cap does exactly what a branded Gelco cap does at a lower material cost. The exception is copper caps paired with copper flashing: match the metal, because mixing copper and galvanized steel in contact creates corrosion. Gelco is a reputable brand, but Flint Chimney Co Henderson is an independent company, not a Gelco dealer or affiliate. We choose what fits the flue and the budget, not what a single catalog pushes.
Styles & brands we work with

Signs Your Gelco Chimney Cap Installation Is Failing
- Water stains on the ceiling or wall near the fireplace. This usually means the cap’s screen or hood has pulled loose at the mounting point, letting rain angle into the flue. The cap might look fine from the ground while the mesh underneath is separating.
- Bird or rodent noise inside the flue. Gelco caps use a mesh screen that degrades over time in Nevada’s sun. Once the screen tears at a corner, starlings and sparrows find it within a season. They’ll nest fast and the noise transfers straight down the flue.
- Rust streaks running down the chimney crown. Cheaper galvanized hardware attached to the cap rusts first, and those streaks are a tell that the mounting bracket is on borrowed time. A stainless Gelco cap body can still sit on a bracket that’s quietly rusting through.
- Drafts or downdrafts when the fireplace isn’t in use. A cap that’s loose or missing rivets lets wind push smoke odor back down into the living room. You’ll smell cold ash when the AC kicks on in summer.
- Visible tilt from the yard. Henderson gets real wind, especially in the higher-elevation neighborhoods near Black Mountain and Macdonald Highlands. A cap that’s catching wind and tilting on its bracket will fail at the base screw points within a year or two.

AfterReplacement Cost & What’s Included
A single-flue Gelco cap install in Henderson usually runs $290 – $410. Multi-flue caps that span a wide crown run $340 – $520 installed. The range comes from flue tile dimensions, whether the old bracket needs grinding out, and whether the crown needs a quick patch where the old cap sat. We don’t charge separately for the trip out or the measurement, and every quote is written down before the cap comes off the truck. You’ll see the part number or spec, the labor line, and the total price. What’s included: removal of the failed cap, cleaning the mounting area, installing a new stainless or copper cap with fresh hardware, and a one-year written guarantee through our 365-Day Done Right Promise. If the cap loosens, rusts at the mount, or fails within a year, we come back at no charge. That’s the Flint Chimney Sweep rule, and it applies to every cap we install in Henderson.
DIY or Call Us?
If you can see rust, tilt, or a torn screen from the ground, you’ve already done the useful diagnosis. Climbing onto a Henderson roof in summer heat means a surface temperature that will burn skin through jeans, and the chimney edge is the last place you want to lose footing while wrestling a stuck bracket. We use extension ladders, roof anchors where the pitch calls for it, and let two techs handle awkward multi-flue caps. We also spot cracked crown concrete or missing mortar joints while we’re up there, because those cause the water damage people wrongly blame on the cap. If you want us to inspect and quote before you spend anything, call (775) 375-4267 and we’ll come take a look.
FAQs
A stainless Gelco or Gelco-compatible cap in Henderson typically lasts 10 – 15 years before the mesh screen tears or the mounting hardware gives out. Our UV exposure and dry heat are harder on the thin mesh than on the cap body, which is why we see screens fail while the dome still looks new.
Sometimes, but it’s rarely worth the money. If the cap body is sound and only the mounting screws are rusted, we can re-seat it with new stainless hardware for under $150. If the mesh is torn or the hood is separating from the base, replacement is the honest fix. A repair quote and a replacement quote are both on paper before we start. Call (775) 375-4267 and we’ll tell you which one fits.
Most single-flue cap swaps take 45 minutes to an hour. Multi-flue caps over a large crown can run 90 minutes when the old bracket needs grinding or the crown needs a small patch. You’ll get a time window when you book, and the tech calls when they’re on the way.
We keep standard single-flue stainless sizes on the truck and can order multi-flue sizes within a few days. If your flue tile is an odd dimension, we’ll measure, quote it in writing, and schedule the install once the part lands. We also stock compatible hardware from DuraFlex and HeatShield when the job calls for it.
