Chimney sweep logs do not sweep chimneys. They loosen some creosote - which then falls where a brush and vacuum still have to collect it.
Olympia Chimney Chimney Cap Installation: The Henderson Owner’s Guide
A replacement Olympia Chimney chimney cap installed in Henderson typically runs $225 to $420, with the cap itself accounting for $90 to $210 depending on the model and size. We keep the most common Olympia Chimney cap sizes on the truck, so most Henderson jobs are done in a single visit. You’ll usually know the cap has failed when you spot rust streaks running down the chimney chase, hear birds or scratching inside the flue, or see water staining on the ceiling near the fireplace.
Olympia Chimney caps are built differently than the universal caps sold at big-box stores. They use a heavier gauge stainless steel mesh and a rolled edge that resists the kind of wind-driven sand and UV exposure we get in Henderson. When one fails, it’s almost always the mesh screen that goes first, rusting through at the weld points long before the lid shows any wear. That mesh is what keeps embers from escaping and birds from nesting, so it’s not a cosmetic piece.
Which Olympia Chimney Models This Applies To
Olympia Chimney makes several cap lines, and not every cap fits every flue. The Olympic series covers standard masonry flues with outside dimensions from 8 inches to 13 inches, while the Wind-Out and Universal Top series are built for prefabricated chimney systems. If you have an Olympia Chimney fireplace or factory-built chimney, the cap model is usually stamped on the underside of the lid or on the collar. If the stamp is gone, a measurement across the outside of the flue tile gets us to the right fit within a minute or two.
The compatibility gotcha with Olympia Chimney caps is the screen mesh spacing. Their standard mesh openings run 3/4 inch, which meets the NFPA 211 requirement for spark arrestor screens. Some aftermarket caps use 1-inch spacing, which is cheaper to produce but lets burning embers through in a dry Henderson wind. We install genuine Olympia Chimney caps when the model is available, and we’ll tell you plainly if a quality aftermarket equivalent from a brand like Copperfield does the same job for less. Flint Chimney Co Henderson is an independent service provider, not affiliated with Olympia Chimney, but we’ve installed their caps for years and know which models hold up in this climate.

Signs Your Olympia Chimney Chimney Cap Installation Is Failing
- Rust streaks down the chimney chase or brick. The mesh or lid has begun corroding, and every rain carries the oxide staining with it. This is the earliest reliable sign, and it means the cap is trapping moisture rather than shedding it.
- Water in the firebox after a storm. A failed cap lip or torn mesh lets rain drive straight down the flue. In Henderson, the occasional heavy monsoon burst does more damage than months of dry heat.
- Bird sounds or nesting material in the flue. Once the mesh opens up, starlings and sparrows move in fast. We’ve pulled nests that entirely blocked 8-inch flues in Green Valley Ranch homes.
- Debris or creosote chips falling into the firebox. A loose or bent cap can shed fasteners and collected creosote back down the chimney. You’ll hear it hit the damper on windy days.
- Visible smoke or sparks exiting the chimney when you burn. The spark arrestor screen is your only defense against embers leaving the flue. In a dry May or June, a single escaped ember is how Henderson brush fires start.

AfterReplacement Cost & What’s Included
A full Olympia Chimney chimney cap replacement in Henderson runs $225 to $420 installed. The cap itself is $90 to $210 depending on flue size and series. The rest is the labor, which includes removing the old cap, inspecting the flue crown underneath, cleaning the mounting surface, and torquing the new cap down so it doesn’t rattle in the wind.
What drives the price up? A flue crown that has cracked and needs a repair coat before the new cap can sit properly. A prefabricated chimney that requires a specific adapter ring. Or a chase cover that has rusted through and needs replacement alongside the cap. Every Henderson job gets a written price before any work starts, and the cap installation carries the same one-year written guarantee as everything else we do. If it fails within that year, we come back and fix it at no charge.
DIY or Call Us?
If you’re comfortable on a ladder and your roof pitch is walkable in good weather, you can safely do one thing yourself: photograph the cap from the ridge or ladder, check the mesh for holes, and measure the flue tile. That gives you a real answer when you call. What we don’t recommend is pulling the old cap off a second-story chase in July. Henderson roof surfaces run 140 degrees by mid-morning, a slipped foot on a tile roof is a broken collarbone, and a dropped cap takes out whatever is below it, including you.
The install itself is not a deep-skill job, but the access is. If your chimney is on a single-story home and you have a spotter and proper ladder restraint, you can attempt it. If it’s a two-story or a steep-pitch roof, call us at (775) 375-4267 and let a uniformed, background-checked technician do it with the right equipment. Hank Delano has cleaned and inspected chimneys across Henderson for years, and he’ll tell you plainly whether this is a swap we should handle.
FAQs
Expect 8 to 12 years in this climate. The dry heat degrades the stainless less than the UV does the powder-coat finishes, and the monsoon season brings the wind-driven rain that finds every weak weld point. A cap that faces west full sun will age faster than one that’s shaded through the afternoon.
Almost never worth it. The lid itself rarely fails; it’s the mesh and the weld points where the mesh meets the rim. Once those welds pop, a patch is a temporary fix at best and a rust accelerant at worst. For the cost difference between a repair and a new cap, the new cap with a one-year written guarantee is the decisively better call. Call (775) 375-4267 for an exact quote, and we’ll put the price in writing before any work begins.
Most single-flue Olympia Chimney cap installations take 60 to 90 minutes from ladder-up to clean-up, assuming the flue crown underneath is sound. If we find crown damage during the removal, we’ll stop and show you exactly what we’re seeing before adding a repair coat, and you’ll approve the new number before we proceed.
We stock the most common Olympia Chimney sizes for masonry flues on the truck, so a single visit handles most Henderson homes. Larger prefabricated-series caps sometimes need a day to source, which we’ll tell you when you call and before you book.
We return and correct it at no charge. That’s the 365-Day Done Right Promise, and it’s in writing on every cap installation we do. It applies to the cap, the mounting, and the labor.
If your Olympia Chimney cap is rusted through or missing mesh, call Flint Chimney Co Henderson at (775) 375-4267. You’ll get a live person on the phone, a written price before any work starts, and a straight answer on whether that cap can wait or needs to go now. Tell me what the flue looks like, and I’ll tell you what it costs – no guessing, no padding.
