Worth knowing

Chimney sweep logs do not sweep chimneys. They loosen some creosote - which then falls where a brush and vacuum still have to collect it.

HeatShield Chimney Inspection in Henderson: What to Know First

We’re an independent HeatShield service provider in Henderson, and we inspect these systems every week. A HeatShield chimney inspection typically runs $149 – $349 depending on the level of inspection and the flue’s condition, and most jobs are completed in under two hours including the camera work. You’ll get a written price before anything starts, a photo report after, and a straight answer about what the flue actually needs. If you’re a Henderson homeowner with a HeatShield liner or resurfacing product and you don’t know its condition, call (775) 375-4267 and we’ll schedule the inspection.

This page is for homeowners who already have a HeatShield product installed, or who are considering one, and want to know what inspection actually reveals. We’re not affiliated with or authorized by HeatShield. We’re the crew that comes out after the install and tells you the truth about what’s happening inside the flue.

How HeatShield Products Fail – and How We Fix Them

HeatShield makes a ceramic-based resurfacing system designed to seal cracked flue liners without a full rebuild. It’s a legitimate product when applied correctly. It also fails in predictable ways that only show up under a camera, and here in Henderson the desert climate accelerates a few of them. Here’s what we actually see:

  • Cerfractory Flue Sealant shrinkage cracks in the mud joints. HeatShield’s Cerfractory material is mixed on site and pumped into the flue to fill gaps and cracks. In Henderson’s dry heat, the material cures fast – sometimes too fast. If the mix ratio drifts even slightly, the surface develops hairline shrinkage cracks within the first or second season. These are rarely visible from the top of the chimney. A camera inspection catches them because the cracks run perpendicular to the original flue tile joints. The fix is usually a localized HeatShield patch application, not a full reline.
  • Smoke shelf pooling in the HeatShield 2-part system. The two-part HeatShield application (Cerfractory fill plus a sealing coat) leaves a textured surface that catches creosote differently than smooth clay tile. In Henderson homes where people fire up the fireplace on cold desert nights and then let it idle, we see creosote accumulate on the smoke shelf and just above it. A standard sweep handles it. But if the buildup sits there for years, it can eat into the HeatShield coating. We flag this during every Level 2 inspection on HeatShield systems, because the texture matters.
  • Separation where the HeatShield liner meets the clay tile edge. HeatShield bonds to the existing flue tile. Not perfectly, every time. At the top of the flue and around the throat, thermal expansion and contraction – common in Henderson where daytime and nighttime temperatures swing 30+ degrees for months – can create a small gap between the HeatShield layer and the original tile. Water gets in. Freeze-thaw does the rest. We’ve seen this in Green Valley Ranch chimneys that are only a few years old. The repair is a top-seal patch and sometimes a re-application around the flue mouth.
  • Overspray blocking the flue cap mesh. During application, HeatShield material occasionally sprays past the flue opening and coats the inside of the chimney cap’s mesh screen. It looks fine from the ground. Under a camera, the mesh is half-clogged, which restricts draft and traps moisture. The fix is a simple cap cleaning or replacement, but owners don’t know it’s failing until an inspection catches it.
  • Failed prior patch jobs from other contractors. We regularly inspect HeatShield systems in Henderson where a previous company did a partial patch, didn’t camera the flue afterward, and left a section uncoated. The symptom is a strong sulfur smell on windy days or smoke backing up in one specific fireplace. The cause is almost always an untreated void behind the upper flue tile. The fix is a re-application over the void, done properly this time, with camera verification before and after.

Hank Delano, our owner, has inspected enough of these systems to say this plainly: HeatShield is only as good as the flue it’s applied over. If the original tile is structurally compromised, a resurfacing product won’t fix that. The camera tells us which situation you have. Tell me what the flue looks like, and I’ll tell you what it costs – no guessing, no padding.

Our HeatShield Chimney Inspection Process

Every HeatShield inspection in Henderson follows the same sequence, and you’re told the price before step one starts.

  1. 1
Call and describe the system. We ask when the HeatShield was installed, what it was covering (if you know), and whether you’ve noticed any smell, smoke, or draft changes. This tells us which level of inspection you need.
  2. 2
On-site visual sweep of the exterior. We check the cap, crown, flashing, and any visible flue tile from the roof or with a drone. In Henderson, cracked crowns are common because the intense UV bakes out moisture from the concrete.
  3. 3
Camera inspection of the flue interior. This is where a HeatShield inspection actually earns its fee. We run a camera from the top and bottom, looking for shrinkage cracks, coating separation, overspray, and voids. You watch the feed or see the stills afterward.
  4. 4
Photo report and findings review. You get a written report with pictures of what we found. If the HeatShield coating is intact, we say so. If it’s failing, we show you where and explain what the fix involves and what it costs.
  5. 5
Written quote for any repair. If the flue needs work, you get a printed price before anything is scheduled. No verbal ballpark followed by a surprise invoice. The number you approve is the number you pay.
  6. 6
Repair and verification. If you greenlight work, we complete it, camera the flue again to verify the repair, and hand you the written one-year guarantee before we leave the driveway.

What HeatShield Chimney Inspection Costs in Henderson

We price by the level of inspection, not by the brand. But HeatShield systems in Henderson tend to fall into a few common scenarios, and here’s what those run:

  • Level 1 inspection (no known issues, just routine): $149 – $199. Visual check, cap and crown condition, damper operation. This is the annual check for a HeatShield system that’s been behaving.
  • Level 2 inspection (property sale, weather event, or change in performance): $249 – $349. Full camera work, flue interior documentation, photo report. This is what Henderson real estate transactions typically require.
  • Level 3 inspection (suspected hidden damage, access requires removal of drywall or masonry): $600 – $1,000+. This is rare, but when a HeatShield liner has failed inside an enclosed chase, we have to get eyes on it through an access opening, and that’s real labor.
  • HeatShield patch repair during an inspection visit: $350 – $700 depending on location in the flue and accessibility. If we can reach it without scaffolding, it’s cheaper. If it’s a tall two-story chase, the price climbs.

What moves the price: chimney height, flue access, and whether the failing area is isolated or systemic. A single shrinkage crack near the top is a patch. Coating separation across half the flue means a re-lining decision. Call (775) 375-4267 and we’ll walk you through which inspection fits your chimney and what it costs in Henderson. Why Henderson Homeowners Call Flint Chimney Co Henderson for HeatShield Work

Most chimney companies in Henderson can sweep a flue. Far fewer can inspect a HeatShield system and tell you accurately whether the coating is failing or whether it’s just cosmetic texture wear. Our techs work with HeatShield, DuraFlex, and Gelco products regularly, so a HeatShield inspection isn’t a novelty for us – it’s a standard Tuesday. We know what these products look like when they’re failing and when they’re just dirty. That’s the difference between a $200 sweep and a $6,000 re-line you didn’t need.

Every HeatShield repair we perform carries our written 365-Day Done Right Promise. If a covered repair fails within a year, we return at no charge. No argument, no re-inspection fee, no fine print. That guarantee is on paper, and it’s handed to you before we take the check. Our techs are background-checked and uniformed. A live person answers the phone 24/7 at (775) 375-4267. And like everything else we do, the price is written down before work starts. That’s the Garrison Standard, and it applies to every HeatShield inspection we do in Henderson.
